Singer. Actor. Marketer. Dog Dad.

Hi! I’m Michael Hammerstrom, a BIPOC queer performing artist and nonprofit professional based in Portland, Oregon. I began my theatre training at Interlochen Center for the Arts and went on to earn a BFA in Musical Theatre and Liberal Arts from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee before touring the country performing professional children’s theatre, which is where I discovered my passion of ensuring the arts are accessible to and representative of everyone from an early age. I have performed at Lincoln Center, in concert on Broadway, with the Boston Pops, at the National Cathedral, at several regional theatres across the country, and in club and cabaret acts throughout NYC and Portland.

After performing professionally and building a successful nonprofit career in NYC and Washington, DC, I moved back to my hometown of Portland in 2019, where I currently work in Market Research at Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) and as a freelance performing artist represented by Harris Talent Agency. I proudly serve on the Board of Directors of Theatre For Young Audiences/USA and Many Hats Collaboration and am an occasional singing member of Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, where I have also served as Creative Director and on the Artistic Director Search Committee. I have been a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant for Young People’s Theatre Project and OPB and am a contributor to Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppressive Futures for Theatre for Young Audiences: An Interactive Guide.

I live in the Kenton neighborhood with my partner Eddie and our two Chihuahua-Terrier mixes, Charles and Dexter.
